Rediscovering the Divine Within
So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
-Genesis 1:27
When was the last time you looked in the mirror and thought, Wow, I’m a divine masterpiece? (Be honest—it’s been a while, hasn’t it?) Most of us see the flaws first: the wrinkles, the bad hair day, the why-is-this-still-happening adult acne. But here’s the thing: none of that changes the truth. You were created in the image of God. Yes, you—bedhead, doubts, struggles, and all.
It’s easy to forget this. Life has a way of covering up the divine within us, like dust settling on a once-brilliant painting. We get caught up in the demands of the day, the weight of comparison, and the voice of the world telling us we’re not enough. But the divine spark hasn’t gone anywhere. It’s still there, waiting for you to notice.
What Does It Mean to Be Made in God’s Image?
Being made in God’s image doesn’t mean you have to be perfect—it means you carry within you the essence of the Creator. It’s the love you feel for others, the compassion you show to someone in need, and the moments of joy that catch you by surprise. It’s the quiet strength that gets you through hard times and the creativity that bursts forth when you least expect it.
But let’s get real—how often do we live like this is true? How often do we walk through life thinking, I am a walking reflection of God’s love? For me, this has been a journey. There were times in my life when I felt so disconnected from anything divine that the idea of carrying God’s image felt like a cruel joke. But slowly, through healing, surrender, and lots of grace, I began to see glimpses of it again.
The Dust We Carry
Think of your soul like a mirror. Over time, life throws a lot of dust at it—fear, shame, anger, doubt. It doesn’t mean the mirror is broken. It just needs a little cleaning. And the best part? God isn’t standing over you with a finger-wag, asking why you let it get dusty. He’s right there with the cloth, ready to help you wipe it clean.
Ask Yourself:
- What dust has settled on my soul, making it harder to see God within me?
- How can I take small steps to rediscover my divine reflection?
Practical Steps to Rediscover the Divine Within
- Speak Truth Over Yourself: Start your day by reminding yourself, I am made in God’s image. Say it out loud if you can—it hits differently.
- See the Divine in Others: Practice seeing God’s reflection in the people around you, even the ones who test your patience (yes, even them).
- Create Something: Whether it’s cooking, writing, or doodling on a napkin, tap into the creative spark God placed within you.
An Invitation
Today, take a moment to rediscover the divine within you. Look past the dust, the doubts, and the distractions, and see yourself as God does: beloved, cherished, and full of light. You don’t have to be perfect to reflect His image—you just have to be willing.
And the next time you catch your reflection, instead of critiquing it, try this: give yourself a wink and say, Hey, divine masterpiece. You’re doing great. Trust me, God’s smiling right along with you.
