Strength in Surrender
But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
-2 Corinthians 12:9
Strength isn’t always what we think it is. The world tells us to push harder, do more, and never let anyone see us struggle. But God has a different definition of strength. He says, “My power is made perfect in weakness.”
For a long time, I misunderstood this. I thought being strong meant never needing help, never letting the cracks show. I carried burdens I wasn’t meant to carry, thinking surrender would make me look weak. But what I’ve learned—what I’m still learning—is that true strength comes not from holding on, but from letting go.
The Power of Weakness
Weakness is something we all experience, but it’s not something we like to admit. We hide our struggles behind smiles, hoping no one notices. Yet Paul says he boasts in his weaknesses. Why? Because when we acknowledge our need for God, His power steps in to fill the gaps.
Surrender isn’t about waving a white flag and walking away. It’s about trading your limited strength for God’s infinite power. It’s saying, I can’t do this alone, but I trust that You can.
What Surrender Looks Like
For me, surrender has looked like releasing the need to have all the answers. It’s meant admitting that I can’t fix everything or carry everyone. It’s meant coming to God with empty hands, trusting that He’ll provide what I need for the next step.
And you know what? He always does. His grace has carried me through battles I thought I’d never survive. His strength has sustained me when mine ran out.
Ask Yourself:
- What am I holding onto that I need to surrender to God?
- How might God’s power show up if I let go and trusted Him?
How to Find Strength in Surrender
- Acknowledge Your Need: Start by admitting where you’re struggling. Say it out loud or write it down—there’s power in naming it.
- Offer It to God: In prayer, hand over your burdens. Say, “Lord, I can’t do this on my own. I trust You to carry this with me.”
- Rest in His Grace: Remember, surrender isn’t about doing nothing—it’s about trusting that God’s grace is enough for whatever you’re facing.
An Invitation
Today, let’s reframe what strength looks like. It’s not about having it all together—it’s about leaning into the One who does. God’s grace isn’t just sufficient; it’s abundant. His power isn’t just available; it’s perfect.
So if you’re feeling weak, weary, or overwhelmed, take heart. You’re exactly where God’s strength can shine the brightest. Surrender isn’t the end—it’s the beginning of His power working in your life.
And if you ever need a reminder, remember this: God’s grace is sufficient for you. His power is made perfect in your weakness. And in Him, you are stronger than you know.
